Call for Nominations and SACA Elections

Call for Nominations

SACA board elections will be held at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament during the weekend of July 15-17, 2016.

The SACA board consists of the following positions:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
(4) Directors at Large

Terms are one year commencing immediately after election results are announced at the Annual Member Meeting to be conducted on Sunday, July 17, 2016, 3pm at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament. If you are interested in running for one of these positions, please send an email to: nominations@sazchess.org, and indicate the position you are interested in running for. Nominations will close June 30, 2016. You must be a registered SACA member of 13 years of age and reside in Southern Arizona in order to run for office. SACA membership registration is done free via the SACA website.

Seeking reelection are Martha Underwood (President), Michelle Martinez (Vice-President/currently Treasurer), John Wright (Treasurer/currently Vice-President), Robby Adamson (Director at Large), Lee LaFrese (Director at Large).

Vacant positions are Secretary and two Director at Large positions. However anyone can run for any position.

SACA Elections

Registered SACA members must vote in person at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament during the weekend of July 15-17, 2016. Voting is available from 10am-2pm Saturday/Sunday. Voting will be closed one hour prior to commencement of the Annual Member Meeting to be conducted on Sunday, July 17, 2016, 3pm at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament. You must register as a SACA member by June 30, 2016 and be of 13 years of age to participate in the voting. A ballot will be available for each SACA member eligible to vote. SACA membership registration is done free via the SACA website.

Regional Championships (RQ #1) - Saturday, March 5th at Harelson



Harelson Elementary. 826 W Chapala Dr, Tucson, AZ 85704. From East and South: Take Oracle to Ina Rd. Turn west on Ina and go 1 block to Paseo Del Norte. Turn north onto Paseo Del Norte and go approximately 1⁄2 mile to Chapala Dr and turn west. The school is located on the northwest corner. From West or I-10: Take I-10 to Ina Rd (Exit 248). Take Ina east about 5 miles to Paseo Del Norte. Follow above directions to the school.

USCF Rated. Individual Swiss format with 5 rounds in 4 divisions. Open to students in grades K-9. Players may play up, but only qualify (see below) for the division that they participate in.

Junior High (K-9) Elementary (K-6) Primary (K-3) Kindergarten/1st Grade (K-1)

Registration is done online via Events4Chess.com by Friday, March 4, at 8:00 pm. USCF Annual Membership may be purchased online at the USCF website.

$20 per player required upon registration. Bring chess clocks and sets, none provided.
Check-in is not required. Please arrive by 8:15 am to inform us of players that will not attend. Pairings are posted at 8:45 am. Announcements start at 8:55 am and play begins at 9:00 am! Players should be seated as soon as the pairings are posted.
Round times are 9:00, 10:45, 12:30, 2:15, 4:00.

Qualifications:To play in the Arizona Scholastic State Chess Championships, a player must qualify a “slot” at a Regional Qualifier. A school may bring the number of players equal to the number of slots qualified at all Regional Qualifiers +1; a team qualifying exactly two slots in a division may bring four players in that division. Players qualify slots by: K-1 division: play at least 4 rounds OR score 3 points; Primary K-3, Elementary K-6, and Junior High K-9: score at least 3 points at a qualifier;
High School Grades 9-12: do not have to qualify. A player may not qualify more than one slot, regardless of the number of qualifiers played.

League Match #4 - January 30, 2016 - Sonoran Science Academy



2325 W Sunset Rd Tucson AZ 85741. Take either Campbell or Oracle to River. Take River west to La Cholla. Take La Cholla north from River to Sunset. Go west on Sunset. MapQuest.
Non-Rated. Team format. Teams in each division are separated by rating into sections. Schools may enter more than one team per division, but you must fill out a complete team before starting a new team. An Individual Section is available for players that are not on a complete team.
High School (K-12): Teams of 3 players (2 player minimum to register) Junior High (K-8): Teams of 3 players (2 player minimum to register) Elementary (K-6): Teams of 3 players (2 player minimum to register) Primary (K-3): Teams of 3 players (2 player minimum to register)
$10 per player. Players pay their coach. Coaches are responsible for paying the school’s total entry fee on Saturday morning before the end of Round 1.
Players register with their coach. Each coach is responsible for registering the team via e-mail, scholastic@sazchess.org, by Thursday (1/28)**. You will receive a confirmation e-mail by noon on Friday. If you don’t receive that confirmation reply, please register again.
**Teams that meet on Fridays may register on 1/29 by 9:00 pm.
**Individuals that do not have a chess team may register through the above e-mail**
Required information for each school must include: Division and rating of each team. Player’s names and board number for each team. Number of players and player’s names who are not on a complete team.
**Team Rating = Rating of all three players combined.
**Player’s Rating = USCF (current supplement).
**Players must play in board order with no more than a 200 point rating swap.
**If unrated, estimate rating using grade multiplied by 75 plus 100. Kindergarten = 100.

Bring chess clocks and sets, none provided.
Players check in with their coach. Coaches, please declare team drops by 8:30 am. Pairings are posted at 8:40 am. Announcements start at 8:50 am and play begins at 9:00 am! Coaches, please seat teams as soon as the pairings are posted. Players not on a team should line up under their grade sign in the Individual Section each round.
Round times are 9:00, 10:45, 12:30.

5 round double Swiss tournament in one section. Non-rated. Open to all. USCF membership not required. USCF regular ratings will be used for pairing purposes.
Registration 6:157:00 PM on 1/27. First round begins at 7:15 PM. Other rounds as available. Time control G/5 minutes. Clock move. No delay. No byes.
$5 registration cost + Jewish Community Center on-site fee.
JCC requires a fee of $2 adults, $1 under 18 from non-JCC members.

Free entry to players rated 2200 & above, along with the JCC fee waived. $50-30; U1600 $20. Medallion to Best K-8, Best K-5.
