Championship and Qualifier sections are USCF Rated. Only the Qualifier sections allow for eligibility for the State tournament. Please see the flyer for details on qualifying requirements for the AZ State Scholastic Championship. 

Championship section - Individual Swiss format with 4 rounds in 4 divisions. Game in 60 minutes (per player) with a 5 second delay.

Qualifier section - Individual Swiss format with 5 rounds in 4 divisions. Game in 40 minutes (per player) with a 5 second delay. Open to students in grades K-9. Players may play up, but only qualify for the division that they participate in.

The entry fee is $20 per player.

Tucson Scholastics (RQ2) this weekend

Just a reminder that the Tucson Scholastic (RQ2) is this weekend at Harelson Elementary. This is your last chance to qualify in Tucson for the Arizona State Scholastic Chess Championship. The State Scholastic Championship will be April 23-25 in Tucson at the Holiday Inn - Palo Verde.

The Tucson Scholastics (RQ 2) is a 5 round tournament with 6 sections.

K - 1 Qualifier
K - 3 Qualifer
K - 6 Qualifer
K - 9 Qualifer
K - 6 Championship *
K - 12 Championship *

* The Championship sections are NOT qualifers for the State Scholastic Championships. Players should not register for these sections if they're trying to qualify for the State Scholastic Championships.

USCF membership is required for this event. You can check the status of your USCF membership here. If you need to join USCF or renew your membership you can do it online at the USCF website.

Registration for the event can be done online at the SACA website. Select the tournament in the left side bar and registration information will load in the main frame.

Tucson Scholastics (RQ2) wrap-up

The Tucson Scholastics (RQ2) was this weekend at Harelson Elementary. Over 200 players participated in the final scholastic tournament of the SACA season.

Final standings are available for all seasons. The tournament has been rated, and players can see their new (unofficial) ratings.

Tucson Scholastics (RQ2) this weekend - UPDATED

Don't miss out on the last scholastic tournament of the season!

This Saturday at Harelson Elementary is the Tucson Scholastic (RQ2) tournament. This will be the final scholastic tournament in Tucson for the season. This is also the last chance in Southern Arizona to qualify for the State Scholastic Championship being held in Gilbert, AZ on April 25-26.

All-star awards will be presented prior to Round 4.

2008 Tucson Scholastics (RQ2) Wrap-up

This past weekend was the final tournament until the State Scholastic Championship (April 25-27) in Flagstaff. 183 players participated in the 2008 Tucson Scholastics at Corona Foothills Middle School.

The tournament has been rated. Most likely these new ratings will not be official until May 1.

The 2007-08 SACA scholastic season has come to an end. Thank you for a great year!
