Tucson Scholastic Warm-up - Saturday, September 19, 2015

Summer is over and we are busy 'warming up' for the scholastic year to begin! Join us for our first tournament of the school year - the Tucson Scholastic Warm-Up on September 19th at Flowing Wells Jr. High!

Directions: 4545 N. La Cholla Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85705.

Description Rated sections. 4 round Swiss System in 12-16 player groups determined by rating. 

Open to students grades K-12. US Chess Federation (USCF) current membership is required. 

Non-rated section. 4 round Swiss System in one group. Open to unrated students grades K-12.

USCF membership not required. This section will not be US Chess Federation rated.

***Note: If you are an unrated player with current US Chess Federation membership then it is
advised that you enter into the Rated Section to establish a chess rating.

***JTP membership not available for this tournament format***

Entry Fee: Registration $15 online at Events4Chess website by Friday, September 18 at 8:00 pm.

***NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED OVER THE PHONE OR AT THE SITE****

Schedule: Pairings posted 8:45 am. Rounds start promptly: 9:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:45 pm, and 2:30 pm.

Time Control: Game in 40 minutes (per player) with a 5 second delay. Bring chess clocks and sets, none
provided.

Awards: Trophies to top 4 in each group. Medallions to all scoring 2.5 or more points that do not win a
trophy. Participation ribbons to all.

Wednesday, July 15, 2015. 

Location: Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort, 10000 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85704. 

Description: 5 round double Swiss tournament in two sections. Open and Reserve (U1600). Non-rated. USCF membership not required. The higher of USCF regular, quick or blitz ratings will be used for pairing and prize purposes. 

Schedule: Registration 6:15–7:00 PM on 7/15. First round begins at 7:15 PM. Other rounds as available. Time control G/5 minutes. Clock move. No delay. No byes. 

Entry Fees: $5. Free entry to players rated 2200 & above. 

Prizes: Open: Guaranteed: $100 - $60 - $40. Reserve: $30 - $20.

SACA Voting Process

Registered SACA members must vote in person at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament during the weekend of July 18-19, 2015. Voting is available from 10am-2pm each day. Voting will be closed one hour prior to commencement of the Annual Member Meeting to be conducted on Sunday, July 19, 2015, 3pm at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament. You must register as a SACA member by June 30, 2015 and be of 13 years of age to participate in the voting. A ballot will be available for each SACA member eligible to vote. SACA membership registration is done free via the SACA website.

Call for Nominations and SACA Elections

SACA board elections will be held at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament during the weekend of July 18-19, 2015.

The SACA board consists of the following positions:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
(4) Directors at Large

Terms are one year commencing immediately after election results are announced at the Annual Member Meeting to be conducted on Sunday, July 19, 2015, 3pm at the Ye Olde Pueblo Chess Tournament. If you are interested in running for one of these positions, please send an email to: nominations@sazchess.org, and indicate the position you are interested in running for. Nominations will close June 30, 2015. You must be a registered SACA member of 13 years of age and reside in Southern Arizona in order to run for office. SACA membership registration is done free via the SACA website.

Seeking reelection are Martha Underwood (President), John Wright (Vice-President), Michelle Martinez (Treasurer), Sumhith Aradhyula (Secretary), Robby Adamson, Levon Altounian, Lee LaFrese, and Matt Noble (Directors at Large).
