Ye Olde Pueblo tournament this weekend
PRIZES:
Open section ($$G): $500 (and plaque) $400 - $300; Top X, A, B/below $150 each.A flier with all the information is available on the SACA website.
Trophy to Top Junior (U20), Top Junior (U14), and Senior (age 50+).
Reserve section (b/38): $250 (and plaque) - $150 (and plaque); Top C and D/below $100 each. Trophy to Top Unrated, Top Junior (U14), and Senior (age 50+)
Booster section: Trophy to 1st (and clock), 2nd - 5th Place, Top E, Top U1000/Unr, Top Junior (U11)
Scholastic I and II: Trophy to 1st - 5th Place (each day).
Top player who plays both days will also receive a digital clock. (Scholastic I and II)

Scholastic Clinic May 6 at the Wilmot Library
There will be a Scholastic Clinic meeting held at the Wilmot Library on Sunday, May 6. The meeting will start at 1:00 and will last no longer than 4:00. Topics of discussion include: reviewing of league rules, format and setting of the scholastic calendar for the 2012-13 season.
All coaches, school sponsors and those interested in organizing/directing SACA tournaments are encouraged to attend. Perspective SACA Board members for 2012-13 are also encouraged to attend.

9 Queens - Free Chess Seminar
Are you interested in teaching chess? Good news! You don’t need to be Bobby Fischer to be an effective chess teacher or coach. 9 Queens is offering a free training seminar for anyone interested in starting a chess club, working as a chess instructor or developing chess teaching skills.
Date: January 28, 2012
Time: 10 am - 2:30 pm (30 minute lunch break)
Place: Tucson Main Library, 101 N. Stone
Topics to be covered include:
- Planning a lesson
- Teaching strategies for instructors with limited chess experience
- How to keep students engaged
- Teaching the basics of chess
- Hands on exercises
- Making chess fun

US Amateur West this weekend
The available sections include:

Scholastic II (K-6/U600) *
* The scholastic sections are three 1-day tournaments (Saturday, Sunday and Monday). Players can play one, two or all three days.
This year's chess celebrity is IM Levon Altounian who will be available each round to analyze your games with you. Additionally, he'll give a simul on Sunday for anyone (tournament and non-tournament players welcome!) who wants to challenge him.
The chess weekend starts off with a Blitz tournament on Friday night at 7:00pm. Registration for that event starts at 6:00pm. EF is $10 ($15 for non-tournament players). Prizes are ($b/20) $75-$45 and Top U1600 $30. There are also prizes for Top K-12, K-8 and K-6 players.
